At the start of the advert we see a family home and then a little boy waking up and eating his chocolate from his advent calendar, waiting for Christmas day to come.
Structure
The forms this advert take is a realistic narrative. The style of this advert would probably be happy and some people would see it as a little film. It makes us think different as we see the boy waiting for Christmas thinking he’s waiting to receive presents but actually when it comes to Christmas day he is actually wanting to give a present and not receive them.
This advert would have probably been edited as it doesn’t look like its raw footage just put together but as we watch it, it makes us realise that the advert makers must have film a lot more footage than we see as the advert is longer than usual adverts. It also looks like they have added some effects with the lighting because sometimes it is light and then dark and then the day changes like weather and time. There are lots of camera angles used. There is panning used, close ups on the boy’s facial expressions and long shots of the boy trying to make the time go faster, there is also a close up of the boy opening his advent calendar on a certain day. The music makes us think its something sad happening but in actual fact it’s a happy emotion with the boy waiting to give presents and not receive them, it makes us feel like and conveys a message that we should respect what we get given and what we have.
I don’t think there are any computer generated imagery used in this advert but it suggests that the production budget was very high as they must have shot a lot more footage than we see as it would take a while to get the shots right.
Techniques
The advert is trying to tell the audience that the products from John Lewis are good quality and that there products appeal to people. The messages are obvious and they trigger a response from the audience as we can immediately tell what the advert maker is trying to put across.
There isn’t celebrity endorsement included in this advert; this may be because people will still be interested in adverts even if it doesn’t have celebrities in. The target audience for this advert would be teenagers, young adults and adults who are looking for a luxury gift for someone. I think the advert makers have targeted their audience as there were a lot of people looking for Christmas gifts when this was advertised on TV and would have attracted a lot of people.
Characteristics of products or services
There would be many benefits offered in this advert as they are advertising there brand to tell their audience that they have many gifts available for Christmas as presents, this would also be an advantage for the advert makers audience. The brand Identity is shown at the end where they show the company who is advertising the advert but there isn’t anything to be obvious about the brand throughout the advert. This advert has a high unique selling point and the service doesn’t really appeal to a certain lifestyle as it would appeal to everyone really.
Conclusion
I believe this advert is successful because it is such an appealing advert so the audience would be highly interested in looking at or buying John Lewis products.
Pantene pro V spa advert
Introduction
This advert is to advertise and sell hair care products. We see women having there hair washed at a spa and how it looks at the end of the treatment.
Structure
I would class this advert as a realistic advert as we see it as being a true fact. The style could be classed as realistic at times because it makes you believe it’s real at times.
There are lots of camera angles used, long shot, close ups and panning shots used in the advert and it looks like it has been edited with the different effects used. There is a background music used which is quiet as there is a voice over it. The lighting in this video looks natural as the colours are quite light.
There are some special effects used in the video but not lots. I would say there isn’t any CGI images used in the advert as it looks realistic.
Techniques
The advert is trying to tell the audience that the product they are advertising is reliable and trusting. This would be classed as a testimonial advert. The messages are slightly obvious as the product makers talk about the results of the product so it leads you to believe it’s trustworthy.
The advert triggers a response of passion to the audience as women would want perfect hair care products that work and they are always interested in finding out more information about products so they would most likely buy it to test if the advert is true and people will be socialising about the products advertised as they would like to know what others think about it and if they have tried it etc. There isn’t any celebrity endorsement used in this advert.
The advert is aimed at young females and adults. This is because it is a hair care product and women are always looking for new hair care products. The advert makers have targeted their audiences as we use hair care products in everyday life so people would buy new products.
Characteristics of products or services
There is a unique selling point and the product appeals to a women’s life style as said before they use hair care products in everyday life.
